Learning Gets More Exciting! ICT-Based Learning at MNS's Preschool and Primary Sharpens Children's Creativity from an Early Age

Amid the rapid pace of technological development, the world of education is required to keep adapting to the needs of the times. In response to this challenge, Multimedia Nusantara School (MNS) has introduced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based learning as part of a broader transformation toward a more relevant way of learning for today's generation.

The implementation of ICT-based learning at MNS goes beyond simply bringing digital devices into the classroom — it also transforms the teaching approach into something more creative, interactive, and purposeful. Teachers are encouraged to develop learning materials using AI technologies such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and others, allowing the learning process to be packaged in various engaging formats, such as storybooks, music, images, and interactive websites.

Creating a Safe and Enjoyable Learning Experience

One of the strengths of MNS's ICT method lies in how technology is used to create a learning experience that is both safe and enjoyable. Through platforms such as NotebookLM, students can search for information in a way similar to using ChatGPT or Gemini, but within a limited set of sources that have been selected and verified by teachers.

This allows students to engage in self-directed learning (self-education) without the risk of encountering inappropriate information. Additional security systems, such as Samsung Knox installed on student tablets, also prevent them from accessing unauthorized websites or downloading apps outside the school's permitted list. With this system, students can continue to learn independently and explore knowledge without concerns about being exposed to irrelevant or unsuitable content.

Sharpening Digital Skills from an Early Age

Through ICT-based learning, students are also equipped with various digital skills that have become essential in today's era. Beyond learning the theory, they are guided to practice coding using ScratchJr and Scratch, create digital content such as posters, presentations, and comics through Canva Education, and produce creative videos using green screen using CapCut. All of this reflects MNS's effort to prepare children for an increasingly digital world.

The greatest benefit of this ICT-based learning approach lies in making the learning process more enjoyable and interactive. Children are not merely passive recipients of information — they actively explore, investigate, and create. Beyond improving digital literacy, this method also helps build important soft skills such as problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, and a competitive spirit.

A Tailored Approach for Preschool and Primary

MNS understands that each grade level has different learning needs. That's why the implementation of ICT-based learning is adapted to each stage of a child's development. At the preschoollevel, technology use is focused solely on the computing subject. This is because young children are still primarily guided toward building social skills, discipline, following classroom rules, and developing motor and sensory abilities.

At this stage, students begin learning basic skills such as turning a computer on and off, using a mouse correctly, typing simple words or sentences, and becoming familiar with commonly used hardware and software. Digital activities are also made enjoyable through drawing with Paint, educational games in GCompris to practice mouse and keyboardcoordination, and an introduction to simple coding coding through ScratchJr.

At the primarylevel, meanwhile, technology use becomes more integrated. Every student is equipped with a tablet used to access digital books, complete quizzes and assignments, and take part in digital art lessons using applications such as Sketchbook. This learning system is further supported by platforms such as the school's dedicated app, MyMNS, and Pearson Digital Collection which follows the curriculum Pearson.

Maintaining a Healthy Balance of Children's Screen Time Screen Time Children's

While technology plays an important role in learning, MNS remains committed to maintaining balance so students don't spend too much time in front of a screen. On average, students use tablets for about 30 to 60 minutes a day, and only for completing assignments, quizzes, or reading digital materials. During break time, tablet use is not permitted — children are instead encouraged to eat, play at the playground, or interact with friends around the school.

MNS also ensures that technology does not fully replace conventional learning methods. Students continue to use printed textbooks and notebooks, and still learn to write by hand as usual. In this way, digital and non-digital learning proceed side by side in balance. With consistent teacher guidance, technology use at MNS remains within safe limits and is fully directed toward supporting the learning process.

Through this approach, MNS not only teaches children to become familiar with technology, but also shapes them into creative, independent learners who are ready to face future challenges. In today's digital era, the ability to use technology wisely is no longer just an added advantage — it has become an essential need.
